All There Is to Know About RS3 That Old Black Magic
Let's first discuss the requirements for this final quest so you don't go into the times ahead any less than well-prepared. We'll begin with the quest requirements.
Quest Requirements
- Necromancy!
- The Blood Pact
Fortunately, there are few quest requirements, though if you wish to accomplish all aspects and receive the best results from this quest, you must have completed the following:
- The Spirit of War
- Vessel of the Harbinger
- Rune Mythos
- Ghost Ahoy
- The Restless Ghost
- Priest in Peril
The skilling requirements are also few, with you only needing level 32 Necromancy; though, like the above list, for full completion, 65 Necromancy and 51 Archeology will be best. With all of this in mind, let's look at the item requirements next.
Item Requirements
- Restored Everlight Trumpet
- 24 Goldrune
- 360 Flesh Runes
- 520 Bone Runes
We would also recommend taking with you an Archeology Journal for a fast teleportation method to the Everlight dig site and a Tome of Um for teleporting to the City of Um. The last thing within this section we will cover is the enemies ahead. So, let's take a look.
Enemies Ahead
Within the RS3 adventure, you'll face Dragith Nurn (level 26) and must slay Hermod, the Spirit of War (level 732), multiple times.
It is essential that you remember when taking on Dragith you must use Necromancy to make the kill. Now, with the basics covered, let's get onto the RS3 That Old Black Magic quest itself!
Getting Started With RS3 That Old Black Magic
Getting the Old Band Back Together
You'll need to speak with Lady Grey to kick-start this quest. You'll find her behind Death within the City of Um; she will task you with finding and returning her guitar, which she was buried with. She stated she wants to bring music back to the city and, with it, some "life." Once you have accepted the quest, your next task is to head to Lumbridge Catacombs.
Fight For Your Right To Party
Upon arriving at the Catacombs, enter and go to the west wall to climb down the stairs before heading down another set and following the corridor until the very end. When you arrive at the end of the corridor, you'll be greeted by Dragith Nurn; you'll then have to battle him and take him down in order to access Lady Grey's guitar.
Once you have the guitar in your inventory, return it to Lady Grey in the city.
When you converse with her, do so twice, both times selecting the first option. You should see "yes" on your first time and "Trumpeter" on the second. Lady Grey will then go on to ask you for assistance with getting the band back together, providing ten vessel souls for your trouble.
Fixer Upper
The next task on your RS3 That Old Black Magic journey will be to speak with "No Gums Murray." He should be located next to Lady Grey, along with the other band members. However, if this is not the case, go to the ritual site and perform a communication ritual using a "Speed I" glyph; this should mean he is visible upon your return.
When you speak with Murray, showcase the Restored Everlight Trumpet, offering it as his new instrument. He will decline, stating it's dull and soulless so that you will suggest an ensoulment ritual. With No Gums on board, make your way to the ritual site and carry out the necessary steps to give the instrument the life it needs.
When you finish the ritual, exhume the trumpet from the nearby chest and return to Murray. He should be more than satisfied with the newly improved trumpet, and you will be rewarded with 25 vessel souls.
The Piano Man
With Murray now happily playing his trumpet, you'll have to move on to the next band member. So, speak with Zommy "Brains" Walker, also on the bandstand. You'll soon learn that your new task is to restore Zommy's piano keys.
To do so, head to the master crafter, located north of the bar or northeast of the square. You'll be required to pay the required 520 Bone runes and 369 Flesh runes to acquire these. When you've successfully obtained the keys, head back to Zommy to gift him them and be awarded 25 vessel souls.
The Last Puzzle Piece
To appease the final band member, you'll first have to find him. Strangely, he's hidden inside of Hermod, the Spirit of War, meaning the only way to free "The Spirit of Rhythm" is to defeat Hermod.
Begin by using Kharen's boating services to get to Hermod at the chamber. You should already have a pretty good understanding of Hermod and his mechanics due to facing him in the Spirit of War quest; very little will have changed from this fight to the previous, so don't stress too much.
You'll need to battle him until you receive the "animated drumsticks," which isn't a specific amount of battles. Once you have obtained the drumsticks, return to Lady Grey, and upon speaking with her, The Spirit of Rhythm will appear.
Lady Grey will then inform you that Hermod has disposed of the drummer's drum set, throwing all four of the instruments into the lake. Your next and final task is to take the drumsticks and head to the lake. Lady Greg explains that when you arrive, use the sticks, and Rhythm will guide you to the drums.
When directly above a drum, Rhythm will then dive down, reanimating the drum and over to the bandstand. Once all four are obtained, return to the bandstand and complete the quest. Upon doing so, the band will begin to play, and there you have it! A successful reunion of the old gang.
