A new and exciting area is entering the game! Sanctum of Rebirth RS3 is the latest area within the Underworld that offers a brand new boss dungeon for players to put their skills to the test. As always, the Chicks Gold blog series is here to keep you up-to-date on all the finer details. So, we'll be discussing all there is to know about this upcoming area, including requirements, rewards, walkthrough and more. So, let's delay no further and get into what makes this new content drop tick!
What Do We Know About Sanctum of Rebirth Dungeon in RS3?
This new area is located in the Underworld and can be accessed via the City of Um. Sanctum of Rebirth RS3 is the game's first Boss Dungeon and is governed by Amascut and her loyal beings. It once stood as a grand sacred temple and acted as a place where souls would face their final judgements, though the days of these happenings are long behind us… Until now. Whispers are circulating, which indicates that the temple may still be active. So, prepare for a brand-new adventure as the time approaches to discover what lies within.
Encounters with the Sanctum of Rebirth Boss in RS3
The introduction of this new Underworld area isn't just bringing with it one boss encounter, but three! To make things even more exciting, you'll be glad to know there are no pesky mobs to stress about, just pure bossing encounters. The first boss is Vermyx in RS3 Sanctum of Rebirth, the second is Kezalam, and lastly, we have Nakatra. The three bosses' full titles are:
- Vermyx, Brood Mother
- Kezalam, the Wanderer
- Nakatra, Devourer Eternal
This dungeon encounter can be played in two modes: Normal, where you'll experience a new respawn-based death mechanic that we'll touch on soon, or you can showcase your skill and assets in Hard Mode.
Death is not the end.
In Sanctum of Rebirth RS3, when playing on Normal difficulty, if you die during a battle, there's a slight twist to your regular transition to the afterlife. Instead of appearing in Death's Office as usual, you will instead be resurrected on the spot! However, you won't have your full capabilities for a short time. For this time, you'll be affected by 'Resurrection Sickness,' meaning that you'll have significantly reduced damage.
The boss dungeon is designed to provide players with a great way to hone their battle skills and master the execution of their attacks.
Requirements RS3 Sanctum of Rebirth
Regarding essentials for entrance into Sanctum of Rebirth RS3, you must have first completed the Necromancy! quest, as well as the new Soul Searching quest.
In regards to getting to the Sanctum of Rebirth in RS3, you'll need to use the boss portal in War's Retreat or in the Max Guild, though the latter will require you to have 99 in all skills. Alternatively, you can take the gondola located by where you find the Suspicious Stranger by the City of Um docks in Soul Searching.
The following leveling recommendations are also something to consider before you embark on this journey:
- 80+ Combat
- 80+ Defense
- 71+ Prayer
- 96+ Herblore
- 86+ Invention
You should also consider these equipment recommendations for the best outcome:
- Tier 80+ Armor
- Tier 80+ Weaponry
- Shield or Defender
- Bladed Dive
- Necrotic Runess
The likes of a Masterwork, Pernix, or Zamorak Anima are good choices for your armor, and you'll also need to ensure you use prayer switching since some attacks from the enemies can be deflected or lessened. These would otherwise likely abruptly end the battle and not in your favor. You should also consider some boosts to help carry you to victory. Blessed Flask will come in handy if you're aiming to take on all three bosses at once since it will be a lengthy battle. If you can't access this item, consider several regular potions to restore your prayer points. Lastly, consider bringing something to offer defense reduction against the foes, as each has a pretty high defense, meaning items like Invoke Lord of Bones, a Guthix Staff, or Black Stone Arrows can turn the tables in your favor.
Sanctum of Rebirth RS3 - The Battle Begins
As mentioned, there are three enemies to take down in this dungeon. We'll start with Vermyx and work our way through the mechanics of each boss to ensure you can bring home a win from RS3 Sanctum of Rebirth with minimal damage.
Battling Vermyx in RS3 Sanctum of Rebirth
This huge Wyrm soul devourer has 400,000 health and uses Ranged attacks, but if you're brave enough to get up close and personal, she may turn to Melee. You'll want to use Melee where possible, as this is the combat style she's weakest against. Now, with this in mind, let's take a look at her movesets so you can determine your counterattacks.
Moonstone Shard
Vermyx will target your location and burst moonstone shard chunks that can be fortunately avoided. This does have a significant delay from when the attack is issued to when it actually begins, as indicated by a 1x1 telegraphed marker. You can ignore these for the most part, as outside of blocking your line of sight, they do little else. If you're slow on your feet and catch a hit from one of the shards, you can expect to take a 4,000 hard typeless damage, get stunned/bound, and your protection prayers disabled. You will also be unable to deflect curses for a two-second period following the damage.
Wyrmfire
Either Vermyx or her Coilspawns will target the area in front of them, dishing out damage of 4,000+ soft typeless damage every couple of ticks if you get caught in the attack radius.
Coilspawn
Her Coilspawn will emerge from the side tunnels during each phase as an additional attack and also during the interludes. They have 50,000 health and, just like their mother, use Ranged as their combat style of choice. You don't necessarily have to slay them, but for each left on the battlefield, Vermyx will receive a stack of Broodmother's Bond, which will strengthen her auto-attacks by 15% per stack. In addition, the time between her attacks and the Coilspawn is exceptionally slim, meaning there is little chance of using Soul Split flick. These guys have a long attack range, but if you're at the center of the arena, you'll only take hits from Vermyx herself and the Coilspawn at her sides. The last thing to consider regarding them is that they can only attack using Wyrmfire, with the ones in the middle tunnels covering the entire area directly before them and those in the outer tunnels attacking in only a straight line.
Despite the 15% per stack Vermyx can receive for each Coilspawn remaining alive in Sanctum of Rebirth RS3, it isn't always worth focusing too much attention on them, as they will respawn pretty quickly.
Soul Rush
When she hits 300,000 and 200,000 health, she will retreat into the tunnels, siphoning soul energy to replenish her strength. After the first phase, three souls will land on the tiles in the western section of the map, and after the second phase, the souls will then appear on the eastern side of the arena. You will be able to see the areas in which these souls reside, marked by four green arrows pointing toward them. You must then grab the souls to redirect their power and do not miss any, as the gap between the soul intervals is quite significant, meaning if you miss any, you can delay the kill and allow time for more Coilspawns to appear.
Soul Bomb
From phase 2, Vermyx will channel a bomb attack toward you, dealing 7,000 soft typeless damage. When this occurs, use Resonance with Protect from Ranged, Defect Ranged and Devotion to block the damage.
Scarab Healer
A Corrupted Scarab Healer will spawn somewhere in the arena and shuffle slowly toward Vermyx. It has 10,000 health and is immune to damage unless hit with a stun attack. If you're unable to stop it before it reaches the boss, you can expect it to heal Vermyx to double its current health.

Now that we've covered the mechanics and phases of Vermyx let's examine our next foe, Kezalam.
Sanctum of Rebirth RS3 - Battling Kezalam
Next, you’ll be battling Kezalam in RS3 Sanctum of Rebirth. Known as ‘the Wanderer’, this dark beast soul devourer has a health of 600,000 and will use Magic from afar and Melee when up close and personal. Unlike the other two bosses in this dungeon, Kezalam is susceptible to stuns. You'll want to use Magic for this section of the dungeon, as it is the combat style this creature is weakest against. Let's take a look at those mechanics to get you prepared for the next steps:
Moonstone Prison and Soul Bomb
This first attack will stun and bind you for a four-second period before a large amount of Moonstone Shards appear around you with a projectile above you. You must then break one of the shards to escape the blast radius, or you face taking 8,000+ soft typeless damage. Defensive abilities can be used against this attack, but Resonance will not heal the damage.
Sanctum Blast
Kezalam will scream periodically and target various areas, issuing follow-up attacks that deal immense damage if you are unable to avoid them. This attack has several variants to consider. So let's take a look:
Scattered
This attack is introduced by the boss yelling 'Dhaaarken'. This attack will cover a large 7x7 grid with a gap between tiles. The gaps are closer when closer to Kezalam.
Targeted
This variation has a few calls that could be made before being issued, and each will cause a different formation.
- 'Kyaaa' is screeched, then a 7x7 grid in a 3x3 area surrounding the boss is formed if you are within 3-6 tiles of the boss’s range.
- 'Hrrr' is growled by Kezalam, and a small 5x5 grid forms away from the boss, if you are more than seven tiles away.
- 'Graaah,' followed by a large 10x10 grid directly on the boss, is formed if you are within two tiles of the boss.
Line
Kezalam screeches 'Paiiin,' and a single 3x3 grid in column/row will appear around/on the player.
Unstable Scarabs
Kezalam summons two Volatile Scarab Akhs from the Moonstone Obelisk(s), who have 2,000 health and immunity to damage unless a stun has been issued. They charge up a blue bar and, if not stopped in time, will explore dealing you and any other players in the arena 6,000+ damage.
Moonstone Obelisks
When reaching 398,000 and 198,000 health, this Sanctum of Rebirth RS3 boss becomes immune to attacks and siphons energy from the south and north Moonstone Obelisks. These possess 60,000 health and will heal Kezalam at 10% of this value every few ticks. If you are unable to destroy the siphoned Obelisk in 40 ticks, it then becomes invulnerable, and the boss will inflict a massive Sanctum Blast. This will cover the entire arena twice (once in each direction). There will be a safespot to the north and south of the respective Obelisk that you can use to negate any damage. Following this, you must drop Kezalam's health to the threshold, destroy the Obelisk, and continue to the next phase.
Additionally, the destruction of the Moonstone Obelisks will also prevent the Volatile Scarab Akhs from assisting the boss in the fight. Any time after this that you would have used the Obelisks will be replaced with Moonstone Prison and Soul Bomb.
With all of that covered, let's check out the phase rotations for this segment of Sanctum of Rebirth RS3:
Phase One
- Sanctum Blast - Scattered
- 4x Auto attacks
- Moonstone Prison and Soul Bomb
- 4x Auto attacks
- 2x Sanctum Blast - Targeted
- 4x Auto attacks
- Sanctum Blast - Scattered
- 4x Auto attacks
- Unstable Scarabs
- 4x Auto attacks
- 2x Sanctum Blast - Targeted
- 4x Auto attacks
- Repeat
With that covered, let's move onto the final boss we'll be facing in this dungeon endeavor: Nakatra, Devourer Eternal.
Sanctum of Rebirth RS3 - Battling Nakatra
So, now we'll cover the movesets, mechanics and phases of the long-awaited final boss. Nakatra, Devourer Eternal, is a former member of the Order of Slayer Masters and has an eye-watering 800,000 health. She will attack you using a mixture of Magic and Ranged but is fortunately equally weak to all combat styles. Upon reaching 640,000 health, phase two will begin, and at 320,000 health, phase three will kick in. Any damage over this will be nullified as 'immune' for a couple of ticks, though this period will be unintentionally lengthened if she is in the middle of a special attack.
In the first two phases of Nakatra in RS3 Sanctum of Rebirth, for every three auto attacks, she will use one of her special attacks, so let's check those out:
Obliterate
A single-hit Magic attack deals 14,400 damage. This is indicated by her screeching 'Prepare for Death' and then 'Be Obliterated!' Fortunately, the damage from this attack can be undone by using Resonance to heal any damage.
Soulfire Attacks
She will periodically scream and target various areas with follow-up attacks that can hit you with up to 6,000+ damage if you're unable to avoid them. Take a look below at the two types of Soulfire Attacks:
Soulfire Waves
Inflicts Magic damage and travels as a wave of soulfire the length of the arena. This attack will either be shown as two large waves, or one large then followed by two smaller. The start point and direction the attack will travel is always on the opposite side of the player's current location.
Sanctum Hieroglyphs
This is a grid attack and signifies the beginning of the second phase against Nakatra in the Sanctum of Rebirth RS3. A grid across a 9x9 area will be marked to explode, issuing hard, typeless damage. The safe areas to stand are marked by empty, lit-up spaces in large hieroglyphs on the walls on the east and western sides of the arena. The western is to be used first and will then be followed by the east.
Summon Scarabs
In phases one and two of the Sanctum of Rebirth dungeon in RS3, a Corrupted Scarab Healer and Volatile Scarab Akh may appear on the northern side of the arena. If it does, it will begin slowly shuffling toward Nakatra; both will be immune to damage unless a stun is issued.
Summon Nefthys
Once Nakatra reaches 320,000 health, she will summon two copies of Nefthys, the Split Soul, for every player present in the dungeon. Each has 60,000 health and is unaffected by group size. They will try to howl to Nakarea, and if they succeed, they will issue her 25 stacks of Devourer's Corruption, which will increase her overall damage. However, you can intercept this attempt by standing close to the Akh; this is necessary anyway, as you will need to take advantage of the massive damage reduction. Nefthys will use Melee attacks and keep your eyes peeled, as they can occasionally disable overhead protection prayers/curses.
Soulfire Crosswave
During the Summon Nefthys period, Nakatra will also use octal-based Soulfire attacks, which act similarly to those of the wave variant.
Heal Nefthys
This is also used during the summon and will see the boss yell 'We are eternal' or 'Be healed!' and heal Nefthys 12,000 health.
Shadowsands Devour
A Soul Devourer will drag you into the Shadowlands in phase 3 of Sanctum of Rebirth RS3, where an Avatar of Amascut attempts to consume your soul. You will then have 30 seconds to collect enough souls to avoid the consumption by interacting with the soul storm. This will also cause two Shadowsands, Feline Akhs, to appear, each with 15,000 health. As this occurs, two Shadowsands Gorilla Akhs will attack periodically from the side, using bursts of Melee attacks that you can, fortunately, protect against. These guys will have 100,000 health, but you can ignore them for the most part, as they remain on the sidelines trying to inflict damage.
When you defeat the Feline Akhs in the Sanctum of Rebirth RS3, make a note of the hieroglyphs by the Avatart of Amascut and take the souls to escape. When you return to the battlefield, the boss will charge an attack, issuing 5,000+ damage while reducing damage taken during the charge-up stage. You will need to then stand on the hieroglyph that was NOT seen in the Shadowsands. Nakatra will then be disorientated for roughly ten seconds following this attack.
Sanctum Shockwave
After a recovery period, Nakatra will perform a burst-type attack that will slowly envelop the arena entirely. This soulfire burst deals hard typeless damage and resets any defensive abilities if you are hit. The best way to dodge this attack is to stand by the edge of the first formation and then walking once it explodes. Ensure you are timely when doing this, as you must make the move before the second formation sets off. During this, Nakatra will also attack on a two-tick cycle, using one combat style until her health bar is restored. When this happens, she will stop the attack and use a single Obliterate and then three casts of Soulfire grids. This will be followed by Shadowsands Devour again, repeating a loop until you end the final Sanctum of Rebirth RS3 encounter.
