Starting RS3 Ancient Awakening
To get started, you'll need to make your way to Fort Forinthry and speak with Overseer Siv at the Command Center. She will tell you that the Raptor, Aster, and an archaeologist have vanished in the crypt north of the Fort. Head to the bank chest nearby, grab food and exit the Fort at the north wall.
Wilderness Crypt
After leaving the Fort, the next step on your RS3 Ancient Awakening journey is to head to the Wilderness Crypt entrance and take the path south to the ancient door, making sure you run past the risen ghosts. Go through the ancient doorway and continue into the crypt, where you will find the Raptor, Aster, and archaeologist in the map room. Begin a conversation with one of them and cycle through the dialogue options; you'll come to a point when you ask Aster, 'Is it safe for civilians?' and they will then request your help in locating 20 dragonkin artifacts.
Locating the Dragonkin Artifacts
Begin searching the crypto, and you will locate a number of Dractonkin artifact nodes in the area that interact with you. As you come to each node level 40, tomb zombies will randomly spawn; if you slay the zombies, additional artifacts will be dropped.
Once you have 20 of the artifacts in your possession, make your way back to Aster, and a short dialogue sequence will commence. In which Aster will discover an 'ancient weapon' in the Island of Ungael. He and the archaeologist will then leave to head to Varrock, and the Raptor will ask to speak with you on the first floor of the Jolly Boar Inn.
The Jolly Boar
At the entrance to the Inn, you will find a quest instance marker. Click on this and enter the Inn to speak with Bill. You'll find him standing near the bar, where he will introduce you to Bill Jr, his crossbow; he will then go on to tell you of his past after the conversation has come to a close, head upstairs and speak with the Raptor, who will present themselves as Ellamaria. She explains she fears Zemouregal will get his hands on the 'ancient weapons' and has planned to send an expedition to Unhael. The Raptor will then ask you to assemble to fort staff and keep a close eye on Aster, whose behavior is presenting as suspicious.
Once you're finished with this conversation, teleport to the Varrock Lodestone and then make your way southwest to Draynor Manor; here, you will find another quest instance icon. If you click the icon, you will open an instance where Aster is standing by the shore of the River Lum, directly south of your current position, and he is crying near a grave marker (implied to belong to Bianca). Following a short dialogue sequence, Aster will leave, making his way back to the Fort, but not before dropping a mysterious letter on the ground.
Back to the Fort
Next, in RS3 Ancient Awakening, head back to Fort Forinthry and interact with the Town Halls quest instance icon to open another instance. Enter the building and speak with Aster; during conversation, it is established that you will lead Bill, Raptor, and Aster to Ungael using a Fremennik ship that Siv has docked at the Fort Grove. Before embarking on this journey, use the bank chest to equip for combat, ensuring you're ready to face enemies of mid/high levels.
For the next part of your journey, having a one-click emergency teleport, food, and potions is recommended, and it can't hurt to refill your prayer points at a nearby altar before setting off.
Setting Sail
When you and the team are prepped, exit the Fort using the east gate and find the rowboat near Grove's cabin. Interacting with the boat will begin your journey to Ungael, and a cutscene will play in which Zemouregal is talking about his search for the ancient weapons. Once you arrive at Ungael, the RS3 Ancient Awakening battle begins, as you and your team will be ambushed by several monsters ranging from level 74 to 97; you and the others will work together and slay them before you plan to make your way to a tower at the top of the island. Begin heading north and go through the Entrance to the Ruins and continue north until you reach the tower's entrance.
Going into Battle in RS3 Ancient Awakening
Upon entering the tower, a cutscene will begin, depicting Zemouregal attempting to use necrotic energy to reanimate a dragon. At this point, several Skeleton and Zombie Warriors are summoned to attack, starting the epic battle.
During the Ancient Awakening RS3 battle, you will be able to command your fellow teammates, and each possesses a passive ability that you can use by accessing the right-click menu option 'Target.' We have listed the abilities below:
- The Raptor - Is invulnerable for a brief moment, and once the moment is up, he expells damage to nearby foes, stunning them for two seconds.
- Aster - Launches fire-tipped bolts that inflict a damage-over-time effect.
- Bill - Summons Bill Jr to fight alongside you all, and the crossbow will act as a stationary ranged turret.
The fight itself will be broken down into 12 waves, and between each wave, players are granted time to pause; this is because the next wave is not activated until you interact with the necrotic energy at the arena's center.
At the beginning of each wave, you will also be able to select a power-up from the subsequent waves; we have provided the list of power-ups below with a brief description of the ability provided.
Power-Ups
- Encouraging Speech - All companions receive an increase of damage and hitpoints by 20%.
- Engaged Spirits - Necromancy increases spirit damage by 15%.
- Going out with a Bang - Enemies felled deal 10% of their hitpoints to other foes within a 3x3 square in the form of explosive damage.

- Personal Bodyguard - Any damage received by the player has 25% of it transferred to the Raptor instead.
- Provoking Shout - Across 10x10 squares, the Raptor will taunt the opposing team.
- Self-Destruct - Bill Jr's, when deployed, will explode and inflict varying levels of magic damage.
- Thorns - 30% of damage is reflected back and dealt to the enemy.
- Well-Cooked Meat - When consuming food, it heals you 150% of its usual amount.

- Wildfire - Every 1.2 seconds for 6 seconds, Aster's burn damage increases to 1400-1800. This effect can be spread up to two times.
Now that we know the potential power-ups to utilize let's take a look at the waves and who we will be facing in each one.

Victory at Last
Following the twelfth wave of battle in RS3's Ancient Awakening, when you slay the Undead Giant, a cutscene will play, showing Zemouregal escaping with the dragon before destroying the boat you arrived on. You and the team will then regroup at the entrance to the tower, and dialogue between you all will begin. Aster will declare regret for his sister's decisions; you must then locate a nearby doorway and interact with it. After which you must follow the path to a study, in which there is a runic projector, interact with it. Aster will declare it is in near-perfect condition but requires magic energy to work; you must then search around to find three motes of energy and use them to power the projector.
Once you power up the projector, the Archivist (a holographic Dragonkin) will appear before you. Depending on the quests you have completed, you may not be able to understand him, as he speaks the Dragonkin language. Regardless of your understanding, Aster will translate the conversation.
The Archivist will reveal he is a creation of Zorgoth, who previously used the island to develop his 'perfect living weapon' in order to wipe out humanity. The 'ancient weapon' that was resurrected was Vorkath, a failed experiment; he was considered as such due to his 'meek and docile' likeness. Unlike other experiments kept in a tomb below Fort Forinthry, Vortkath's remains were left in Ungael due to their size and inability to be moved.
Following this conversation, the Archivist reveals it can activate a one-way conduit to the tomb mentioned above. Ask him to do so, and the mysterious device will glow, emitting light; interact with the object, and you and your team will be teleported into the Crypt's map room, in which a brief dialogue will appear. All members of your party will agree you must return to the Fort and warn the others. Once at the town hall, interact with the quest instance marker once more, and the group will declare their unity against Zemouregal. You can then conclude the dialogue and bring this quest to a close; congratulations! You have successfully completed RS3 Ancient Awakening! Now, let's take a look at your rewards.
