Osseous RS3 - Let the Battle Begin

To get things going, you'll first need to know how to access the RS3 Osseous encounter. You'll need to activate the Teleportation Device in the Spirit Grove, found directly east of the Anachronia base camp, and then run all the way to the east until you find yourself at the Rex Matriarch lair door. Alternatively, you can use a War's retreat attuned Boss Portal, which will teleport you directly to the lair door.

From here, in our Osseous walkthrough, you will need to go west of the Crumbled wall to where the original three Rex Matriarchs in RS3 reside. Then, click on the Osseous teleportation device in the eastern part of the lair, which will take you to the encounter.

Osseous RS3 - Moves and Mechanics

Just like other RS3 bosses, Osseous will attack on a rotation; check out below the order in which these attacks will occur and what each of these moves will do.

Attack Rotation

  1. The Skeletal Rex will perform two Necromancy auto attacks (3 on repeat rotations). This attack will consist of green balls of energy that will attack the player.
  2. One Ranged auto attack will follow the two Necromancy. This mechanic will see spikes fired from the beast's tail at the player.
  3. Another automatic Necromancy attack will take place; this will repeat the first move, though only one will be used this time.
  4. RS3’s Osseous will then use ‘Minion Summon’, this is shown by the creature smashing her tail to the ground dealing heavy Melee damage. At which point, six skeletal baby dinosaurs appear and slowly move toward her. If they are allowed to reach her, they will heal between 5-10% of her current life points.
  5. One more Necromancy auto attack.
  6. One Ranged auto attack.
  7. One Necromancy auto attack.
  8. Osseous then performs ‘Minion Launch’ in which she swipes all minions with her tail, throwing them at the player one by one. They will then attack using Melee damage, which can stun the player.
  9. Two Necromancy auto attacks.
  10. ‘Osseous’ Roar’ is used which roots all players, and causes any living minions/baby dinosaurs to explore, inflicting 50% of their current life points in a small AoE.
  11. Two Necromancy auto attacks.
  12. Osseous will then use ‘Munch,’ which drags the player towards her and roots them in front of her. If you do not deal 5000 damage and break the roots, before she issues her high-damage chomp, you risk taking up to 6000 damage.

Defending Against Osseous in RS3

We know what the great beast is going to throw at us in this encounter, but the next big question to answer is how we protect ourselves. Below, we have broken down what needs to be done to take down RS3's Osseous; let's get into it!

When you enter the arena, immediately use your Necromancy abilities, activate Conjure Armies, activate Protect from Necromancy, and use Ghost Command. Following the first two auto Necromancy attacks, activate Protect from Range, then continue with your chosen Necromancy attack.

When the first mechanic, 'Minion Summon,' is used by Osseous in RS3, you'll need to take down the mini dinos before they reach the boss, or they will provide that 5-10% lifepoints heal. Wait until the minions are within Melee distance, and use your Zombie to blow them up by performing Command Putrid Zombie. If you don't manage to carry out this attack before Osseous finishes another round of auto attacks: one Necromancy, one Ranged, and then one final Necromancy, then she will perform a second tail swipe called 'Minion Launch' in which the minions will turn their attention to you, attacking and dealing additional damage. If this happens, wait until they're within Melee distance again in a cluster and then perform Command Putrid Zombie. Ideally, though, getting rid of them before this is best.

This mechanic will be followed by another two Necromancy auto attacks before Osseous uses 'Osseous Roar,' which will root you in place while the dino minions encroach closer and explode. Ensure that you destroy them before they reach their AoE to prevent damage.

Two more auto Necromancy attacks will then follow before Osseous uses her final mechanics, 'Munch,' in which the player is pulled close; you'll then be required to inflict 5000 damage to get free of the dinosaur's hold. So use something like Finger of Death, Volley of Souls, and Weapon Spec to help you break free. If you don't get free before the mechanic is powered up, you face taking a bite that hits with up to 6000 damage.

If you escape, continue the onslaught of attacks until you take down the great beast. If you take too long, however, the process will repeat, with the same mechanics and steps taken by Osseous going on a loop. Continue as you have until you manage to take her down.
